CAPSTONE

Work with industry client Medtronic on a year-long project to develop professional engineering skills in a real world environment.

NRwhite2.JPG
CHALLENGE:

Work as a team of engineering students with Medtronic to optimize the tensile strength of a mechanical crimp. Conduct extensive testing to ensure repeatability of results with scaling for production in mind.

ACTION:

Fulfilling the roles of both a systems engineer and one of two test engineers, I was responsible for ensuring the test fixturing and components the team designed interfaced properly with the testing equipment. I also worked extensively with the other test engineer to create a Design of Experiments (DOE) and oversee the testing procedures.

OUTCOME:

Unfortunately, Covid-19 closed both CU campus and Medtronic’s facility in the middle of the testing phase of the project. As a result, the project was not able to be completed. Instead, our team provided complete documentation to Medtronic and offered suggestions based on what little testing had been completed.
